NIKON 1 J5 – THE BEST CAMERA IN THE WORLD* (01.01.2016)

 

There are two common opinions about small compact cameras:
1. It is possible to get the same results with mobile phone.
2. SLR cameras are able to produce much better results

This is not actually correct. In the recent years, the technology has gone through a staggering development and this also concerns camera equipment. Small cameras have become unbelievably powerful.

The actual situation is like this:
1. When it comes to the photo quality, mobile phones are left way behind of the small cameras.
2. Small cameras are actually forcing their way into the world of SLR cameras.

Why don’t we define a small camera – it is a camera that fits easily into the jacket’s pocket. In best cases, it even fits into the pants’ pocket. May it be a hybrid or a compact camera.

It is important to know that not all small cameras are that powerful. But one of the most powerful of those is Nikon 1 J5.

I am not going to get into technical detail or do any kind of lab testing.

Despite its small measurements, it fits into the hand perfectly. KIT lens 10-30mm produces incredibly good quality photos. If you want to take the last from it, you can also use fix lenses which choice is quite respectable. It is not less important (at least not for me) that this tiny hybrid camera looks gorgeous. Especially the white edition.

Could this little “bug” substitute the whole SLR camera shelf? Here, you must ask yourself the reason you use the equipment. If photography is your JOB, then definitely not. You cannot photograph a wedding with those small ones or capture eagles or sport events.

But if photography is entertainment for you, then definitely yes. I have 2 bags full of top notch Nikon equipment at home but since I haven’t had the time for any serious photography trips in the last three years, I have taken 90% of my photos with small cameras. And believe me – it is just FUN! For example, if I go on a vacation with my family, it is not very convenient to carry along a 10 kg camera bag. And let’s be honest, many of us could not be bothered to do that. Or when we do, the camera and lenses are often left in a hotel safe. Does it sound familiar?

With a small camera, I can just slip it into my pocket and VOILA! It is just frightening to think how many photos I could have missed in the last three years if I had not had my small camera with me.

And now we get to the “asterisk” that stands in the end of the bold headline of this writing.
