NIKON D7200 IS A SERIOUS TOOL FOR A DEMANDING PHOTOGRAPHY ENTHUASIAST (03.07.2015)
Nikon has a quite a wide choice of DSLR cameras. In order to make the right decision, you first have to decide whether to choose a full or half frame sensor camera.
Full frame camera sensor's measures are similar to what the 35mm diagonal film frame used to be. The measures of Nikon's half frame sensors are 23.5 x 15.6mm and the resolution of D7200 sensor is 24 megapixels.
What are the differences between half frame sensor and full frame sensor?
Lens draws a circular picture inside of the camera with the light. It is the light sensitive sensor that cuts the photo rectangular. With most DSLR cameras, the ratio of the sides of the square is 2:3 just like with film frames. The smaller sensor also covers a smaller area than the one created by the light circle. The cut-off factor of the half frame sensor is 1.5 compared to the full frame. That is why; there is a smaller angle on the photo. Here is an example: the angle of the 50mm lens in front of the full frame is 46 degrees. With half frame cameras, the photographer has to multiply the focal length of 50mm to equity beta of 1.5 and the angle of the frame now corresponds to the focal length of 75mm and this is about 32 degrees.
Full frame has its advantages. The bigger sensor enables to gather more light, ISO power increases and with smaller field of depth photos, the unsharpness is described softer etc.
What does the user of half frame win? When in the wide angle area, we lose angle and this can make an enthusiastic photographer sad, then in the telescopic area, the smaller photo angle increases the zoom of the lens and this is a pure joy for the photographer. If the lens in front of your camera says that its focal length is 300mm, then in front of your camera, this lens has the focal length of 450mm. And the zoom is not gained at the expense of light power!
Most Nikon lenses are suitable for D7200. Lenses designed especially for half frame sensor cameras, are marked with DX note. Of course, all the lenses meant for full frame sensor camera, also fit. D series autofocus lenses also fit – these don’t have an autofocus engine and they get their gearing for the lens from the camera engine. At the moment, Nikon’s D7200 camera is the only producible half frame sensor camera which has this opportunity; usually it is the option of professional cameras.
D7200 camera has other features that are usually present in professional cameras. Camera’s front and top side are made of magnesium alloy. This gives the camera stiffness, durability and being weatherproof. The ergonomics is great just like with other Nikon professional cameras. All the important functions can be found under the buttons and this camera has two leading roll buttons – one at the back and the other under the shutter button just like on professional camera bodies.
This camera sensor’s low-pass filter no longer has the layer that fogs the photo, like for example, the sensor of Nikon D810 camera has. This gives the photo files a lot more sharpness!
The focusing system of D7200 is also improved to the level of a totally professional camera. The new Multi-Cam 3500DX II 51 p autofocus system with the sensitivity of -3EV gives a notable advantage when focusing in dim conditions.
The ISO range is 100 – 25600 and with black-and-white photos, it can be increased to 102400.
The memory buffer is quite decent from 18 14 bit or 27 12 bit RAW file and up to 100 JPG file with the speed of 6 files per second.
This camera has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC functions!
Actually, describing these technological opportunities might continue for a long time. But I will rather try to describe a photographer for who this camera is meant.
If you are an enthusiastic photographer who is not satisfied with just randomly taken shots. If you think that the number of pixels is not the most important thing but rather the opportunity to be part of the photo creation process is. If you do not wish that the photo is only produced by the automatics of the camera but that it would rather be YOUR creation – YOU see, YOU decide, YOU take!
If you wish that the quality of the photo would be perfect, camera durable and fast but at the same time, you do not wish to pay the high price of a professional camera and make big investments into your hobby, then D7200 is a camera which price and quality ratio is balanced.
