Interview with Morten Rygard (11.01.2014)
How long have you been a photographer and what is your proudest Award/Achievement to date?
Morten got his first camera from his dad when he was 4 years old, and he has been taking photos since.
He is proud and happy for every single award he received.
What keeps your passion for photography alive?
Morten is addicted to photography. He has a hard time imagining not being passionate about it, but he think the most important thing is to keep doing what you like and to be true to yourself. If your passion is portraits, do that. If it is not, don’t. Doing something that you do not like or doing it in a way that you think is wrong can kill any passion.
Apart from photography, what other passions do you have in life?
Morten passions are also music, film, skiing and exploring the world.
If there is one tip you could give a student of photography in order for them to improve their craft, what would it be?
Photography should be fun so use your imagination and experiment with light. And then practice, practice, practice and practice.
Name three photographers or artists who have most influenced your work.
Richard Avedon
Edward Steichen
Philippe Halsman
All three were exceptional and experimenting portrait photographers.
Give your prediction of where you see photography going in the next 10 years.
Frankly, I do not think that much about it. I am more interested in were my photography is going. What everybody else is doing should be of lesser importance.
If you were an animal, who would you be?
A polar bear – inquisitive and meat-eating. Although it probably would not be a good idea given the climate changes.
