AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II (07.01.2014)
Nikon today introduces the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II, an incredibly portable zoom lens that launches together with the new Nikon D3300 entry-level D-SLR.
A great first lens with which to faithfully capture life’s day-to-day moments, the NIKKOR 18–55mm VR II is an ultra-lightweight version of one of Nikon’s most popular “walk-around” lenses. Weighing just 195 g and equipped with a retractable lens mechanism, this is a lens that’s small in size and big on convenience. The 3x zoom covers the popular focal length range of 18–55mm, which is perfect for a variety of situations; the optical design delivers sharp, high-contrast photos and HD movies; and Nikon’s Vibration Reduction system ensures clearer images than ever before.
Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager, Lenses, Accessories & Software, Nikon Europe, says: “Nikon’s 18–55mm lens has long been providing newcomers to the Nikon D-SLR system with a compelling introduction to the world of NIKKOR optics. In order to meet the interests of a broad user base, it was always essential to make sure this lens was affordable, versatile and a consistently strong performer. A considerably more compact and portable successor, the new Nikon 18–55mm lens meets this criteria and advances it further, offering improved image quality, without sacrificing affordability and versatility.”
Everyday moments
From flattering portraits to action-packed events, the multipurpose NIKKOR 18–55mm VR II zoom lens is the easy way to capture the best of the moment. Compact and portable, it renders photos and HD movies with vivid colour and superb sharpness. The 3x optical zoom offers a versatile wide-angle to moderate telephoto perspective that’s suited to everything from landscapes and interiors to portraits and distant action. A great lens to take when you’re on a day out, it’s the ideal way to travel light.
Vibration Reduction
Despite its compact size, this lens still boasts Nikon’s Vibration Reduction system for clear, blur-free images, whether you’re taking a wide-angle group portrait in low light, or zooming in to capture distant subjects. Designed to enable more stable handheld shooting, Nikon’s VR technology lets you shoot at up to four stops faster, without the image-degrading blur that can be caused by camera shake. Shooting in low light often means the camera uses slower shutter speeds, but with VR, you can enjoy sharp images without using a tripod or a flash. You also get sharper shots when zooming in to capture distant subjects, or when shooting extreme close-ups.
Designed for digital
The AF-S NIKKOR 18–55mm VR II lens is engineered to meet the demanding needs of digital photography for brilliant results every time. The optical design features 11 elements in eight groups, and an aspherical lens element minimises spherical aberration and other forms of distortion while ensuring high resolution and contrast. Nikon's compact Silent Wave Motor (SWM) technology enables quiet, fast, and accurate autofocus performance, which is a particular advantage when shooting movies.
Ultra-portable
A true “carry-anywhere” lens, the body weighs just 195 g, so you’ll barely notice you’re carrying it. The lens is just 76 mm long when extended and in use and boasts a retractable lens mechanism that makes it a mere 59.5 mm long when retracted. Compact, lightweight, and versatile, it’s the perfect all-round lens for beginner D-SLR photographers.
